International Symposium on Optical Manipulation of Quantum Information in Solids
Paris, Institut Henri Poincaré, May 26-28, 2010
Organised by some of the QuReP partners, this workshop will gather around 50 to 70 scientists from various countries working in the field of coherent and quantum optical processes in solids. It will also pay a tribute to the memories of two researchers, well-known in the community, who disappeared in an air crash last year. The conference is in the direct continuation of SMQIOAS 2008 in Bozeman, Montana and of a series of European workshops organized for several years on quantum information in rare earth doped crystals.

The QuRep web site goes live
After some teething problems, primarily securing a ".eu" domain name for the project, the QuReP web site finally goes live! You may have noticed that we are not using "qurep.eu" but "quantumrepeaters.eu" due to someone else already having taken ours... Another problem for procuring ".eu" addresses is that one is not allowed to own a ".eu" domain name unless one is from an EU member state ... Anyone, please let us know how you find the site and if there is anything that can be added to make it better/more useful!
QuRep Kick-off In Paderborn
The QuReP project had its Kick-Off Meeting in Paderborn on the 11-12th of January. Despite some of the worst weather for traveling in recent years, all partners arrived more or less on time!

In attendance were: Nicolas Gisin, Rob Thew, Mikael Afzelius, Hugues de Riedmatten & Félix Bussières (UNIGE); Stefan Kröll and Lars Rippe (LUNDS) ;Jean-Louis Le Gouët (LAC); Philippe Goldner (LCMCP); Alban Ferrier (UPMC); Matthieu Legré (IDQ); Wolfgang Sohler, Harald Herrmann & Abu Thomas (PAD) along with Christine Silberhorn who is currently moving from Erlangen to Paderborn.
A series of talks from all groups were given in the morning followed by afternoon discussions on planning for the project. Some of these will be available in the Dissemination section.
